Men's Soccer Upends Middle Georgia 3-1

COCHRAN, Ga. – The Thomas University men's soccer team defeated Middle Georgia, 3-1, on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference showdown.

Middle Georgia jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute, but the Night Hawks (3-1-1) leveled the contest in the 29th with a sweet strike from graduate student Jason Piurowski

Piurowski beat the keeper off a long through ball from Alex Barrett, slotting the shot into the top of the net for the tying goal.

After the equalizer, the Night Hawks wouldn't find their second goal until after the break.

The go-ahead goal occurred moments after the half, when a Middle Georgia foul inside the 18-yard box sent Joao Pedro Vinha to the PK spot.

Vinha converted the ensuing penalty kick putting TU ahead 2-1 in the 46th.

Thomas held the lead and added an insurance goal in the 52nd after Cavan Daley scored a diving header from a driven Lucas Morales cross.

Eleven Night Hawks fired shots, with Luiz Anchieta and Diego Sanchez taking four and three, respectively. Each substitute that entered the game registered a shot, with TU's Vinha and Daley both coming off the bench to convert the go-ahead and insurance goal.

Freshman Jorge Gonzalez played all 90 in goal and finished with two saves and one goal allowed.
