Women's Soccer Rolls to 7-1 Win over Point

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Thomas University women's soccer team dominated Point University, rolling past the Skyhawks 7-1 on Friday. 

The Night Hawks (2-1-1) struck for two goals in the first half before piling it on with five more in the second half to run away with the victory.  

TU opened the scoring in the 27th minute as Elsebeth la Cour Andersen found the back of the net off a feed from Raelin Lescher. The score then doubled just moments later as TU struck again with Analeice Wilkes netting a goal in the in the 31st minute.

Already with the game in hand, the Nigtht Hawks delivered an offensive onslaught in the second half, beginning just after the whistle. Anderson struck first, scoring her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Sasha Manders in the 45th minute. 

The Skyhawks would quickly respond in the 47th minute to narrow the gap (3-1), but the floodgates opened with the Night Hawks scoring four more times in the final 38 minutes of the contest.

In the 52nd minute, Wilkes tallied her second goal of the game off an assist from sophomore Sophia Papas. Fourteen minutes later Thomas University added its fifth as Dalaney Hanneken found the back of the net on a sweet shot into the bottom of the net. Chaos from Hanneken and a sweet cross McKenna Swartzman forced an own goal to go ahead 6-1 in the 74th minute, and, finally, in the 82nd minute, Hannah Keene put the finishing touches on the win with her first goal of the season.

Overall, TU created numerous opportunities throughout the contest, delivering 34 shots with 16 being on target in the home opener. 

Emily Lamoreaux made three saves in the winning effort, with all three saves coming before the Night Hawks opened the game in the 27th minute. Freshman keeper Olivia McIntyre made her first appearance of the season as a Night Hawk, recording three saves in eight minutes played.  

Up next, the Night Hawks will be on the road traveling to take on Wesleyan College this upcoming Monday, September 5th at 4 p.m.
