MOBILE, Ala. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team found its first win of the season Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 win over Spring Hill College. Thomas' underclassmen continued to impact the game, with two of the Night Hawks' three goals scored by newcomers.
Freshman Elsebeth la Cour Andersen scored in her second consecutive game, while fellow newcomer Sasha Manders made an impact scoring her second goal of the season. Sophomore Raelin Lescher joined in on the action, netting her first goal of the season in the impressive 3-1 win over DII Spring Hill.
TU (1-1-1) opened the scoring with Elsebeth Anderson's goal in the 26th minute before the Night Hawks doubled the team's lead just before half with Raelin Lescher's goal in the 44th minute.
The Night Hawks dominated the first half entirely, limiting the Badgers to a single shot while firing six shots (and scoring two) in the first half.
After the Night Hawks displayed a strong offensive performance in the first half, the Badgers responded in the 64th minute, cutting TU's lead to 2-1.
Starting goalkeeper Emily Lamoreaux faced six shots on goal, recording five saves, including a tremendous PK save in the 58th minute.
The Night Hawks solidified the dominant two-goal road victory in the 84th minute when Sasha Manders provided Thomas a cushion, netting her second goal of the young season.
"I know it's cliche, but great team win today," said Head Coach Julie Orlowski. "Our back line absorbed everything they threw at us… Emily Lamoreaux made a tremendous save on a PK… Our midfield transition keeps improving, and our front line is creating very good opportunities."
Thomas will look to build on its momentum Thursday when the team hosts its home opener against Point University. Kickoff at the TU Soccer Complex is slated for 5 p.m.
