Late Second Half Goal Dooms the Night Hawks in 2-1 Defeat

MOBILE, Ala– Thomas University's men's soccer team lost its first game of the 2022 fall season on Sunday afternoon. The Night Hawks fell after a rain delay and late goal pushed the Pilots from LSU-Shreveport ahead in the 2-1 loss.

The Night Hawks (0-1-1) fell behind early against the Pilots (1-0-1) as a Scott Neil goal in the 17th minute pushed LSU-Shreveport ahead, 1-0.

Though showing up quiet in Thomas' opening day tie to Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), TU's Giacomo Bacigalupo came up huge just before halftime, with the SUN Conference Player to Watch finding his way into the stat sheet with a goal in the 42nd minute, 1-1.

With the game headed to intermission, the Night Hawks looked to be mostly in control holding the Pilots' to just one shot in the entire first 45.

The second half proved to be a far different story, with the Pilots finding ten shots in the second half alone. Sophomore keeper Stephen Douglas turned in another solid performance picking up three saves.

Douglas' highlight save came in the 72nd minute when the sophomore keeper saved a penalty to keep the contest level, 1-1.

Shortly after the save, the game went into a lightning delay in the 74th minute.

The game resumed after the delay, but it was all LSU-Shreveport from here as the Pilots eventually broke through the Night Hawk defense in the 77th minute, 2-1.

In the end, TU falls to 0-1-1 in the Mobile Classic and will look to regroup for Middle Georgia this upcoming Thursday, August 25th, in Cochran, Ga.

Inside the Box Score:

  • After limiting the Pilots to only one shot towards goal in the first half, the Night Hawks saw ten shots fired towards net in the second.
  • Douglas earned three saves in the game, including a PK save in the 72nd minute.
