THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Thomas University softball team kept their hot streak alive Friday afternoon, beating #10 Campbellsville University 8-0 in six innings.
Starting pitcher Larran Carter pitched all six innings allowing one hit and striking out nine batters.
The Night Hawks (7-6, 0-0 SUN) were dominant all contest, registering nine runs on eight hits including seven RBIs.
The scoring started in the first, and, after Averie Sheppard singled to left field to begin the game, Adreanna Killingsworth's hit later on in the inning brought Sheppard home from third to give TU the early 1-0 lead.
Next, TU's Makana Pember took advantage of a pass ball and made the scoreline 2-0 heading into the second.
Neither team found any offensive success over the next pair of innings, until the fourth, when Tiana Villagomez drove a double out to center field bringing home a pair of Night Hawks, 4-0.
In the fifth, Thomas once more capitalized on an error, as Makana Pember reached first and Avery Sheppard, who had previously walked, advanced to second with no outs in the inning.
Next up, Dara Moore advanced both runners into scoring position as her infield single to the pitcher found her out at first. Killingsworth would follow that at bat with a sacrifice fly, bringing Sheppard home for her second run of the contest and extending the lead to 5-0.
Senior Holly Campbell would drive in her lone RBI of the contest next, as her infield single brought Makana Pember into score from third, 6-0.
Then, in the bottom half of the fifth, Campbellsville (6-5, 0-0 MID) registered its first hit of the contest, as Ashby Murt found a gap in right field, ending Carter's hopes of a no-hitter.
In what proved to be the final inning of the ballgame, TU scored an additional two runs in the sixth, as Michaela Farr and Averie Sheppard scored the final two runs of the contest running away with the thunderous 8-0 win.
