Thomas “On Point,” Takes 2-0 Win

WEST POINT, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team continued its superb weekend play Sunday evening, defeating the Point Skyhawks 2-0 at River Bowl Stadium for its second, straight win of the season.

While TU (2-1) was outshot by PU in 90 minutes, the Green & White only needed seven shots to solidify its fifth, straight win over the Skyhawks.  Junior Jana Pastorek recorded two assists on the day, while Junior Analeice Wilkes tallied one goal and one assist.  Sophomore Trinity Chastain did not disappoint in her Night Hawks' debut, pitching a shutout with seven saves.

Wilkes' goal came in the 44th minute, as the sequence began with Sophomore Kayley Smith fighting off a defender for possession and ended with a Wilkes' shot bouncing off PU Goalkeeper Erica Burkhardt and into the net for a 1-0 lead.

Not long after the second half began, TU took advantage of an early opportunity to extend its lead.  A goal kick from Burkhardt came directly towards Smith, whose header to Pastorek set up an immediate attack for the Night Hawks.  After Wilkes received the pass from Pastorek, the Leicester, England native set a cross towards the net that became a pinball sequence between the post and Point's defender before Freshman McKenna Swartzman's slotted shot gave the Green & White another score.

The 2-0 win puts Thomas at 2-1 overall on the season.
