RV Knights’ Defensive Stand Dooms Night Hawks

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team could not overcome the defensive obstacle RV Middle Georgia made Saturday afternoon, falling to the Knights 2-0 at TU Soccer Complex.

The Night Hawks (2-2) struggled on the attack, not registering a shot until the 52nd minute of the match.  On the defensive side, however, Sophomore Goalkeeper Emily Lamoreaux kept the Green & White in the contest, making seven saves from the 17 shots made by the Knights.

The match saw a barrage of shots early from MGA, as the Knights had as many as six shots in a span of five minutes and 25 seconds.  The Purple, Black & White broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute as Tatjana Steinau scored from a pass by Hannah Theriault to put the Knights up 1-0.

In the second half, Thomas registered six shots.  Junior Jana Pastorek was responsible for half of the shots, with one registered shot on goal.  TU had a few chances from developed set pieces in the 67th and 71st minutes with two shots on goal, but MGA's Noemy Franco recorded her lone two saves in that span.

In the 85th minute, Thomas saw another legitimate opportunity to potentially create the equalizing goal as Freshmen Raelin Lescher and McKenna Swartzman connected passes that led to a chance for Forwards Analeice Wilkes and Janae Scott.  As Scott cut towards the middle of the field, the Tallahassee, Fla. native found Wilkes, who crossed back to Scott for the shot but the attempt went wide.

The Knights took the opportunity to ice the contest in the 87th minute, as Theriault capitalized on a poor clearance to fire a low shot into the net to seal a 2-0 win for Middle Georgia.
