THOMASVILLE, GA. — The Thomas University Men's Soccer program is gearing up to play its last non-conference opponent for over three weeks, as the team prepares to host the Conquistadors from Florida National University.
Thomas enters the home contest fresh off an impressive SUN Conference opening 3-3 draw which saw the Night Hawks compete against #7 St. Thomas. In the match, TU took an early lead in the first half before Bobcats rally tied the contest at two apiece heading into halftime.
The Night Hawks started the second half by scoring in the 47th minute, before St. Thomas was once again able to respond in the 78th minute to force overtime. The game ended in a 3-3 draw after both overtime periods.
Freshman keeper Stephen Douglas made his second consecutive start in the contest tallying nine saves, while Freshman Cameron Hawkins and Freshman Regan McLaren picked up the goals. Hawkins picked up the first score before McLaren added his two later in the contest.
Florida National enters the contest 5-2-1, after impressive play provided the Conquistadors a chance take down #7 St. Thomas. The match came down to the final five minutes before a late St. Thomas goal stole the contest 4-3 in the closing minutes.
Most recently, Florida National battled Brewton-Parker College on Monday in a closely contested win that took a final minute goal from FNU Junior Constantino Higa to give the visiting Conquistadors the 3-2 win.
In the match, Florida National held an advantage throughout bolstering a 23-7 shot advantage. In net, Freshman Juan Fermoselle and Senior Rodrigo Festuccia split action, as both keepers tallied 45 minutes and one save.
Kickoff against Florida National at the TU Soccer Complex is scheduled for 1 PM.
