Golden Goal Brings Night Hawks First Win

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team took a step in the right direction on a drizzling Thursday afternoon, as a Golden Goal in the 93rd minute from Sophomore Analeice Wilkes in extra time gave TU a 4-3 win over Georgia Gwinnett at TU Soccer Complex.

GGC (0-3) struck first as Natalie Ferrin scored the game's first goal on a header from a corner kick by Addie Adame in the 31st minute.  The Night Hawks wasted no time evening the score (1-1) on a goal by Senior Taylor Hults on an assist to Junior Hadas Prawer just 3 minutes later.

The Night Hawks kept the pressure on the Grizzlies and scored again in the 36th minute, as Prawer served in a ball from the right flank that sophomore Ayla Aiduck headed over GGC's Matilda Johansson and under the bar to give TU its first lead of the day (2-1).

Aiduck would see her second goal of the match in the 58th minute as the Orlando, Fla. native buried a rebound off a Hults free kick to extend the Night Hawks' lead 3-1.

Georgia Gwinnett would score two quick goals of their own in the 78th and 81st minutes to tie the match 3-3 and ultimately send the game into extra time.

TU would ensure the contest was resolved within the first four minutes, as Aiduck and Junior Emily Linscer would set up a bender shot by Wilkes that hit top right inside of the net to secure Thomas' first win of the season.

"I couldn't be prouder of the character of the character of the team today.  To come back right away from down a goal, and then to regroup after losing the 2 goal lead speaks volumes to the leadership on our team," said Head Coach Julie Orlowski.  "This is a quality win over a quality opponent."
