THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team overcame a physical Dalton State squad, battling to a 1-0 win Saturday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex.
The Lady Roadrunners (4-4) out-fouled the Night Hawks (2-1) 14-7. The highly contested match saw three yellow cards issued in the first 35 minutes.
Thomas broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, when Sophomore
Ayla Aiduck's run behind the back line earned the penalty. Senior
Taylor Hults buried the kick for the match's lone goal.
The second half saw more end-to-end action as both the Hunter Green & White and the Lady Roadrunners tried to grind out the victory, as each team recorded five shots in the half.
In the 82nd minute, Freshman Goalkeeper
Emily Lamoreaux made an acrobatic save on a shot from DSC's Andrea Soto Caldero, touching the ball over the crossbar en route to a first, collegiate shutout victory.
"Our team responded very well to the challenges of the day. To come back with another intense 90 minutes after an overtime battle on Thursday reveals not only the talent but emotional maturity of this team," commented TU Head Coach
Julie Orlowski. "Another quality win over a quality opponent."
