THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University women's basketball team fell to the Fire from Southeastern Saturday 124-41.
In the contest, five Southeastern players hit the double-digit mark in an impressive display of unselfish passing and expert shooting. The Fire hit 65% from the field, reaching a season-high performance from long-range, shooting 17-28.
The Fire jumped off to an early 11-0 lead before Graduate student Alexis Boston recorded the first field goal of the afternoon for TU. Thomas (1-6, 1-2 SUN) fired 53 attempts at the basket, hitting 32% of their looks. Additionally, the Lady Night Hawks shot less than 20% from long range, finishing the night 4-for-23 from deep.
The Fire set the TU Gymnasium ablaze, as Junior Haley Howarth and Graduate student Angela Perry lit up the Night Hawk defense, scoring 30 and 28, respectively. Howarth took control of Saturday's contest, knocking down 8-11 from long range for her highest output of the season.
For the Night Hawks, Forward Alexis Boston contributed seven points to go along with seven boards and two assists in a solid individual effort. Senior Dyani Sheppard also made an impact, scoring a team-best 16 points on 7-13 shooting. Off the bench, Amya Bullard scored six in her limited 12 minutes, but the fight wasn't enough as the Fire ran away with the contest 124-41.
Up next, the Night Hawks will have just over 24 hours to regroup, as, Monday night, TU will make a trip North to play D2 opponent Albany State in an exhibition contest. Tipoff against the Golden Rams is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
