THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University women's basketball team lost a competitive contest against Albany State University Monday night, losing to the Golden Rams 76-52.
Despite the loss, Thomas shot the ball efficiently, shooting 50% from the field and 33% from beyond the arc. The Night Hawks also saw improvement from the free throw line hitting 8-11 in the loss.
In the first quarter, the Night Hawks kept the game close until the six minute mark, before ASU went on a quick run that extended their lead to nine by the end of the opening period, 26-17.
In the second quarter, the Night Hawks narrowed the halftime gap to seven. The Lady Night Hawks were fueled by a pair of Xènia Cavallé three pointers. Going to intermission, Juniors Amayla Sharif and Xenia Cavallé had six points to lead the team in scoring.
From that point, the Golden Rams cruised ahead and continued to grow their lead all the way until the end of regulation, 76-52.
In the end, Amayla Sharif and Ta'Nija Watson led the Night Hawks in scoring, as both Juniors reached the double-digit mark. The turnover count for Thomas proved to be too much though, as ASU scored 34 points off of the 33 TOs.
Up next, the Night Hawks will have an eight day break, before traveling to beautiful Miami Gardens, Florida to face Florida Memorial in a SUN Conference contest.
Tipoff at the FMU Wellness Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
