THOMASVILLE, GA — After coming off a disappointing loss to Webber International University on Wednesday, the Thomas University Men's soccer team will host Warner University on Saturday in hopes of earning its first SUN Conference win.
Thomas (4-4-1, 0-2-1 SUN) picked up an impressive 3-3 draw at home against St. Thomas University on September 25th in its SUN Conference opener since then, the Night Hawks have looked vulnerable losing two consecutive conference contests. First the Night Hawks lost to Ave Maria 2-1 at Gyrene Field and then again on Wednesday, in a 2-1 overtime loss against Webber International in Babson Park, Fla.
Despite the defensive efforts, the Night Hawks have been on the wrong side of history, as, Ave Maria and Webber International both picked up their first-ever wins against the Thomas University men's program.
Warner University is 5-3-4 on the season, and 1-1-2 in SUN Conference play, with there most recent matchup against Southeastern resulting in an impressive 4-2 win.
In that match, Warner fell behind early to the Fire before two first half goals sent the Royals into halftime with the lead. After the half, the Royal attack continued to be too much as the team tallied two more goals in the second half, outscoring the Fire 4-2 in the victory. Warner forward Dawson Johnson leads the Royals attack, while Sophomore Cyrius Woodlerson holds the starting goalkeeper position. Woodlerson is allowing 1.92 goals per game at a .721 save percentage, and has picked up three wins on the season.
Thomas holds a 7-2 all-time record against the Royals, and, in the pair's last meeting, the Night Hawks narrowly escaped winning 2-1 in Lake Wales.
Kickoff at the TU Soccer Complex is scheduled for 10:30 AM., and will be followed shortly after by the Women's soccer team who hosts Southeastern.
