BLUFFTON, S.C. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team could not ignite its offensive spark Thursday afternoon, as the Night Hawks were bested by USC-Beaufort 5-0 at Fin Land Field.
TU (6-8, 1-5 SUN) was limited to eight shots on the day as USCB (10-5-1, 4-2-1 SUN) fired 27. Sophomore Goalkeeper
Emily Lamoreaux recorded seven saves off 12 shots faced.
The first half for the Night Hawks was a similar tune to its last first half played: an early score from the opponent and another seconds before the end of the half. The Sand Sharks took five and a half minutes to put the first score on the board with a goal from Henriette harr Haga. For the second, straight contest, the Green & White kept an opponent at bay for the majority of the first half after conceding the first goal. Unfortunately for Thomas, things became eerily similar when USCB's Anniken Broderson capitalized with seconds left off a ricochet from a clearance attempt by the TU defense that gave USC-Beaufort a 2-0 lead heading into the locker rooms.
The Sand Sharks would go on to add three more goals in the second half to secure the win.
"I thought we were the better team in the first half; if we didn't have bad luck we would have no luck at all." said Head Coach
Julie Orlowski, referring to the late first half score. "I am so proud of the fight and resilience of this team. They battled to get us back into the match and that left us vulnerable in the back. The score is not indicative of the battle."
The Night Hawks remain in the Palmetto State as the team is set to face SCAD-Savannah in Hardeeville, S.C. Kickoff against the Bees is slated for 2 p.m.
