Thomas Falls in Final Non-Conference Contest

THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University Men's soccer team lost its last non-conference matchup of the season 6-1 against the Grizzlies from Georgia Gwinnett College on Wednesday afternoon at TU Soccer Complex.

The visiting Grizzlies took an early lead in the contest after a poorly cleared ball in the 12th minute wound up on the foot of GGC midfielder Diego Milessi. The Sophomore midfielder slotted the shot into the bottom corner capturing the 1-0 lead.

The impressive offensive display continued, as GGC leading goal-scorer Karim Tmimi found space on the top of the box doubling the lead in the 23rd minute. Later in the half, two more goals were conceded as Ivano Carrieri and Mawia Haroun picked up goals in the 31st and 37th minutes.

At the half, the Night Hawks trailed 4-0.

In the second half, Thomas came out with resurgence, striking first in the 52nd minute off a beautiful Giacomo Bacigalupo free kick that tightened the gap to three with plenty of time left in the contest.

The Night Hawks battled in the second half, creating notable opportunities from Freshman attack-man Diego Azar and Junior midfielder Jack Vikström. Georgia Gwinnett goalkeeper Matthew Wallace proved to be a force in the net, saving Sanchez's 1v1 opportunity before Vikström's shot crushed the crossbar. The Sophomore goalkeeper ended with six saves as the Grizzlies' attack added two more goals down the stretch.

In total, the contest featured seven goals, 20 shots on net (seven for TU, 13 for GGC), 13 saves, four corners, and 29 fouls. Stephen Douglas played all 90 minutes for the Night Hawks recording seven saves in net.

Up next, Thomas will host its final home game of the regular season this Saturday, October 23rd, as the Men celebrate Senior Day. Kickoff at the TU Soccer Complex against Florida Memorial University is scheduled for an 11 a.m. kickoff time.
