MSOC Celebrate Senior Day with Win

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University Men's soccer team won its first SUN Conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex, as the team picked up the 3-1 win against Florida Memorial.

The win was a great way to celebrate the 2021 Senior Day as the result also keeps the Night Hawks (5-8-1, 1-5-1 SUN) alive in the chase for the six seed.

In the first half, the Night Hawks struck first after a good service across the box from freshman midfielder James Hall. Senior Cavan Daley headed home the game-opening goal.

Later in the half, just before halftime, Florida Memorial was able to answer after center striker Johan Godoy scored in the 43rd minute, beating Thomas University goalkeeper Josh Ricord in the 1v1 opportunity.

Knotted at one apiece, both teams started the second half with offensive pressure as Junior goalkeeper Josh Ricord record six saves, while centerback transitioned goalkeeper Ian Maldonado made seven saves in his first appearance in between the posts for the Lions.

The 1-1 tie held until the 70th minute before the Night Hawks capitalized on two opportunities in the second half, scoring two goals within a minute to give and extend the TU lead to 3-1.

Junior Samuel Greaves put a shot in the back of the net to give Thomas the lead, and then, just a few moments later, Greaves found himself involved in the offense again as his assist set up defenseman Diego Azar for the third goal of the contest.

In the end, the Men's Senior Day proved to be a successful operation, as the Night Hawks picked up their first Sun Conference victory of the season.

Additionally, the men were able to honor their 11 seniors post-game, as each Senior received a plaque and a photo to commemorate their efforts and dedication to the Night Hawks program.

Up next, the men travel to RV Southeastern on Saturday, October 30. Kickoff is set for 2 PM.
