Night Hawks Blank Lions for First SUN Win

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's Soccer team scored all the goals necessary in the first half to secure a 4-0 win over Florida Memorial to pick up its first SUN Conference win of the season Thursday afternoon at TU Soccer Complex.

The Night Hawks (6-6, 1-3 SUN) snapped a three-game losing streak, as the TU attack returned in full force with 19 shots and 13 shots on goal.  Sophomore goalkeepers Emily Lamoreaux and Trinity Chastain saw split time in net with Lamoreaux receiving the starting nod.

Junior Analeice Wilkes found the back of the net in the eighth minute after receiving the thru ball from Freshman Raelin Lescher to give Thomas an early 1-0 lead.

Graduate Taylor Hults showed shades of Spring 2021 as the St. Johns, Fla. native cut through the defense and fired a shot on net that bounced off FMU goalkeeper Hailey Ilijin before Junior Brianna Fanning delivered the soft touch rebound shot towards the center of the net for the 2-0 lead.

In just her fifth game of the season, Sophomore Janae Scott logged her first pair of goals in NAIA play in a 74-second span.  The Florida Southern transfer's first goal came courtesy of a thru ball setup pass from Sophomore Kayley Smith that allowed Scott to score on a breakaway chance.  The second goal by Scott was scored off a brilliantly, executed corner kick set piece from Lescher in the 41st minute that would give the Night Hawks a 4-0 lead and preserve the victory.

In the first half alone, Thomas took 16 shots. All 19 of TU's shots were made within the first 60 minutes of the match.

"We thought we played really well against Southeastern (last Saturday), and there were just a couple of different things that we needed to be better at like possession in the final third," said Head Coach Julie Orlowski.  "We focused on it all week and the team did a much better job at their shot selection and pulling apart their (FMU's) defense."
