Men's Soccer Falls to the Bees

THOMASVILLE, GA — The scoring woes continued Wednesday as the Thomas University Men's soccer team lost 3-0 to the Bees from SCAD-Savannah.

The Night Hawks fell behind early in the seventh minute as SCAD Junior Matteo Tizzano scored the first goal on a transition counterattack.

Later in the half, Thomas defender Andres Labrada received a red card after sliding on the goal-line to keep a SCAD shot out of the net. The initial hand ball call was contested, but after discussions from all three officials, the red card was issued to Labrada, leaving the Night Hawks to play the final 55 minutes of the contest with ten men.

Freshman goalkeeper Stephen Douglas kept the Night Hawks in the contest despite the card predicting the penalty and making the save. Thomas went to half-time down 1-0.

Second half brought a rejuvenated Night Hawks attack that created multiple chances within the first ten minutes of the period. Despite the initial push, the Bees withstood and then doubled their lead in the 63rd minute again on a counter-attack.

That goal came after an initial shot ricocheted off of the TU keeper and fell to a wide open SCAD midfielder who buried home the rebound, furthering the lead to 2-0.

The third and final goal of the match for the Bees came shortly after on another transition play in the 69th minute.

In the end, both teams created chances with 13 shots apiece. SCAD led in the shots on frame category with nine, while the Night Hawks got three on goal. Thomas held the advantage in corners at eight while SCAD only received four and both Freshman goalkeepers were impressive as Stephen Douglas picked up six saves, while Connor Friel registered three and the clean sheet.

Up next, the Night Hawks hit the road for their toughest matchup of the year which will be this Saturday against #4 Keiser University. Kickoff at Arrigo-Vecellio Field is set for 11 AM.
