Men's Soccer Falls at Home

THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University Men's soccer team fell 1-0 in a SUN Conference matchup against the Fire from Warner Saturday morning.

In the contest, the Night Hawks (4-5-1, 0-3-1 SUN) outshot the Royals 15-9 but struggled to turn those shots on frame as only three ended up testing WU keeper Woodlerson Cyrius.

The lone goal of the match came in the 30th minute as a foul just outside the box set up a free kick opportunity for the Royals.  The service came from WU defender Eduardo DaSilva who fired a low driven ball into the box that found a waiting Royal midfielder in Deven Ingley. Ingley swiftly turned in one motion redirecting the cross into a shot that found the bottom of the net.

Second half action saw Thomas control the majority of the period creating chance after chance, but the Night Hawks lacked composure in the final third as they were unable to turn the chances into goals.

Thomas' best opportunities came in 69th and 71st minute as TU upperclassmen Reese Lescher and Cavan Daley had back-to-back chances to turn a shot in a game-tying goal. First off, Daley's header came from a corner and was headed towards the top of the net before Royal goalkeeper parried it high. Just two minutes later, Lescher's opportunity was also stripped away as the Warner keeper slid in denying Night Hawks of game-tying goals.

In the end, ten corner kicks were taken, 24 shots were pulled, 20 fouls were committed, and six saves were made.  Both the Night Hawk goalkeeper Stephen Douglas and Warner University goalkeeper Woodlerson Cyrius held strong in their nets, picking up three saves apiece.

Up next, Thomas will be back in action at the TU Soccer Complex Wednesday, October 13th at 1 PM.
