Steals, Third Quarter Push by WIU Downs Thomas

THOMASVILLE, Ga. –  The Thomas University Women's basketball team kept Webber International on its heels, but 18 steals and a double-digit scoring run in the third quarter gave Webber International the upper hand, as the Warriors defeated Thomas 69-58 Saturday afternoon at TU Gymnasium.
 
TU (1-10, 1-10 TSC) shot well to start the game, but the team's field percentage declined throughout the contest.  The Lady Night Hawks turned the ball over 26 times, leading to 25 points off turnovers for Webber (11-4, 7-3 TSC).
 
Senior Guard Alisha Clayton picked up another double-double with 14 points and 16 boards.  Junior Forward Dyani Sheppard stepped in big for Destiny Reed, tallying 15 points shooting 50% from the field.  Senior Guard Alexis Powell notched 13 points, shooting 4-for-10.
 
1st Period (WIU 16, TU 15)
  • The Lady Night Hawks limited the Warriors' 3-Pt. Offense to under 29%
  • TU shot 45.5% from the field
 
2nd Period (WIU 33, 28)
  • The Lady Night Hawks were plagued with nine turnovers in the quarter
  • Down 22-17 at the 7:55 mark, TU took advantage of a struggling Webber offense, going on a 9-0 run over a span of 4 minutes and 37 seconds
  • WIU caught a second-wind late in the period, finishing the quarter with their own scoring run (11-2)
  • Alexis Powell led all scorers in the quarter with six points
 
3rd Period (WIU 56, TU 39)
  • The Warriors' offense picked up the pace with 7:56 left, charging out to a 13-3 run to extend its lead 48-33
  • The Lady Night Hawks were contained to 26.3% from the field
 
4th Period (WIU 69, TU 58)
  • The Hunter Green & White outscored the Warriors 19-13 in the quarter
  • TU finished the final 2:12 with a 10-2 scoring run
