Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rough Day from the Field Leads Keiser Over TU

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – In a The Sun Conference game that featured sub-par shooting from both sides, the Thomas University Women's basketball team could not ignite its offensive attack, as the team was defeated 65-48 by Keiser Thursday night at the de Hoernle Student Life Center.

Defensively, the Lady Night Hawks (1-11, 1-11 TSC) came to play in the first half, not allowing a Made 3-Ptr. for the first 17 minutes and 25 seconds of the game, en route to its best 3-Pt. Defense performance of the season (2-for-20) against The Sun Conference's current third-best 3-Pt. offense.  Unfortunately, the same could not have been said about its overall defense, as TU allowed over 43% of shots from the floor.

Thomas' offense struggled all game, shooting just over 30% from the field and converting 4-of-20 long range shots.  The Lady Night Hawks' free throw shooting also took a step backwards Thursday, converting 54.5% from the charity stripe.

Senior Forward Destiny Reed returned to the court to notch her second double-double on the season with 11 points and 10 boards.  Senior Guard Alexis Powell recorded 12 points on the night, while Sophomore Guard Amayla Sharif notched eight points, shooting 80% from the field.

1st Quarter (KU 12, TU 7)
  • Alexis Powell drained the game's only Made 3-Ptr. at the 1:32 mark

  • Six of KU's 12 quarter points came from the charity stripe

2nd Quarter (KU 27, TU 22)
  • After Keiser went up by nine (28-19) with 7:48 in the first half, TU controlled the next three minutes and 14 seconds, outscoring the Seahawks 8-2

  • Both teams shot 6-for-15 in the quarter

3rd Quarter (KU 46, TU 33)
  • Keiser began the quarter outscoring the Hunter Green & White 12-5 in a 5:38 span

  • Thomas gave up six turnovers

4th Quarter (KU 65, TU 48)
  • After the Seahawks reached its largest lead of the night (21) at the 6:48 mark, the Lady Night Hawks went on a 9-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back Good 3-Ptrs. from Sophomore Guard Gabrielle Jester, to cut Keiser's lead 56-42

  • Thomas closed out the final 1:26 of the contest with three, successful free throws
