THOMASVILLE, Ga. – In the first home game of the 2021 portion of the season, the Thomas University Women's basketball team stayed its course, and held on to come away with its first victory of the season, edging the Mariners 69-64 Thursday night.
For a second, consecutive time, Thomas (1-6, 1-6 TSC) finished the night shooting over 44% from the field. For the first time this season, TU controlled the lead for more than 22 minutes. Senior Guard
Alisha Clayton and Sophomore Guard Amayla Sharif finished the night with 12 points apiece. Clayton additionally picked up 11 rebounds on the night, notching her second double-double of the season.
1st Quarter (TU 15, CCGA 14)
- The Lady Night Hawks jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead with a pair of good 3-Ptrs from Sophomore Guard Gabrielle Jester
- TU limited Coastal Georgia to under 29% from the field
- Dyani Sheppard completed a third putback basket right at the buzzer
2nd Quarter (TU 31, CCGA 27)
- The Hunter Green & White's offense began an 8-0 scoring run at the 8:23 mark
- TU shot 38.5% from the field
- The Lady Night Hawks' defense kept the Mariners scoreless for nearly four minutes
3rd Quarter (TU 46, CCGA 45)
- The Mariners converted its first field goal of the period with 6:27 left
4th Quarter (TU 69, CCGA 64)
- TU shot 57.1% from the field
- The Lady Night Hawks tallied 23 total points
- Thomas forced two crucial turnovers in the final two minutes to seal a win
