THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University softball team spilt Saturday's double header with Montreat College, falling 5-2 in the first game, then winning 9-3 in the second game at Armory Field.
The Night Hawks next face Middle Georgia State in Cochran, Ga., Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Game One
Montreat scored five runs from four hits and an error in the second inning to take the early lead. Thomas plated two in the sixth, as
Holly Campbell reached on an error,
Addyson Mauldin drew a walk and
Michaela Farr tripled to center field. The Night Hawks left one runner on base in the final two innings, and seven for the game.
Makana Pember was 2-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases, and Farr went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
Larran Carter pitched all 7.0 innings, allowing seven hits and walking two, but giving up no earned runs while striking out four.
Game Two
The Night Hawks bounced back with a 9-3 victory in the second game. TU scored three in the bottom of the first, then Montreat tied the game in the top of the third. Thomas answered with three in the bottom of the frame, then added a trio in the sixth.
Corryne Diaz was 2-for-3 with a double, a drawn walk and a stolen base while Mauldin had one hit and collected three RBI. Campbell hit a two-RBI triple in the first,
Kennedy Hardy doubled to right in the third for two runs, and
Chauntivia Cliatt picked up an RBI off a double to right in the sixth.
Starting pitcher
Margarita Sena earned the win in 2.2 innings, striking out two while allowing three runs from four hits and walking two.
