Box Score 2 COCHRAN, Ga. – Thomas University split its doubleheader with Middle Georgia State University Sunday afternoon, losing the first 3-0, then winning the second, 4-3 in eight innings.
The Night Hawks are in Columbus, Ga., for the NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic next weekend. TU will play five games in three days at the South Commons Softball Stadium.
Game One
Thomas allowed two runs in the third from two hits and one error, then Middle Georgia State plated one more in the fifth to take the 3-0 victory.
TU collected three hits, one apiece from
Holly Campbell,
Corryne Diaz and
Jaelynn Vialpando.
Starting pitcher
Rebecca Boesen struck out three, but allowed three runs – one earned – from five hits and a walk in 4.2 innings.
Larran Carter came in for 1.1 innings of relief, holding MGSU without a hit.
Game Two
MGSU again scored two runs in the third, but this time Thomas plated one run in the top of the fourth. Middle Georgia added one in the fifth, but Thomas scored one in the sixth and one in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. TU scored one run from two hits and left three on base in the top of the eighth, then stranded one Knight in the bottom of the frame to earn the win.
Hailie Stewart was 3-for-3 with two RBI, including a leadoff home run in the sixth.
Makana Pember and Campbell each drew a pair of walks.
Sheala Brown struck out five in her complete game victory while allowing three earned runs from nine hits.
