THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team lost its home opener, 8-1, to No. 4 Southeastern University (Fla.) Friday evening at Varnedoe Stadium.
SEU hit a leadoff home run to start the game, plating three in the first inning, then adding a trio of runs in the third and two more in the eighth. TU scored one run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Shortstop
Luis Martinez connected on TU's only hit, a double in the ninth inning that led to Thomas' lone run. After a double to left center, Martinez advanced to third as right fielder
Christian Sweat grounded out to third. Then Martinez scored on a wild pitch.
Starting pitcher
Patrick Haley took the loss for TU, allowing six runs from seven hits and three walks, while striking out two in 3.0 innings.
Thomas and Southeastern return to the field Saturday for the Sun Conference doubleheader that begins at noon.
