THOMASVILLE, Ga. –
Emily Linscer scored a pair of goals and tallied one assist in Thomas University's 6-2 win over Shorter (Ga.) University Sunday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex.
Linscer attempted seven total shots with three on goal to help TU to its third win of the season.
"We had another collective team win today as four players scored six goals," said Coach
Julie Orlowski. "The team responded well to the challenges we presented them with and executed well all day."
TU outshot Shorter 28-12 and 13-5 on goal, and had five corner kicks to SU's one.
Freshman
Jordin Sanchez earned her first start in goal, making three saves in 90 minutes. Both goals against her were off of set pieces and were well-earned upper 90 shots.
Thomas scored first as
Taylor Hults took a long shot from outside the area and put it into the top right corner of the net at 10:41.
Shorter equalized just two minutes later with a free kick from the far left.
Senior captain
Jen Clyde then scored her first collegiate goal on a penalty kick to put the Night Hawks back in the lead, 2-1, in the 15th minute.
Thomas then netted three goals in the next 90 seconds. Linscer assisted a goal by
Hadas Prawer then Hults connected on her second goal of the game, a penalty kick placed into the top left corner of the net. Linscer put back a rebound off the keeper for her first goal of the game at 24:42.
Jonna Wittwer assisted on the goal.
"Our relentless pressure in the first half really paid dividends," said Orlowski. "I'm proud of the way the defense tightened up and didn't allow a goal in the run of play."
In the second half, Linscer had an unassisted goal from near the edge of the box to put TU ahead, 6-1.
Shorter added a second goal off a free kick that hit the crossbar, then was followed up and finished.
"It is time to recover and refocus as we travel to Hattiesburg (Miss.) to play Mobile on Thursday and defending national champion William Carey on Saturday," concluded Orlowski.
The Night Hawks face No. 23 Mobile at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 and No. 1 William Carey (Miss.) Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m.
