THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University softball team defeated College of Coastal Georgia, 4-3 in nine innings, Saturday afternoon at Armory Field. The Night Hawks lost the second game, 3-1.
Thomas is now sixth in the Sun Conference standings at 18-20, 12-10, while Coastal Georgia is in second place at 23-16, 11-7.
The Night Hawks face out-of-conference opponent Faulkner University on April 17 at 2 p.m. in Thomasville, then host Warner University in TSC action April 24 at 11 a.m. for the final games of the regular season.
Game One
After five scoreless innings, Coastal Georgia scored one run in the top of the sixth, but Thomas tied the game in the bottom of the seventh as right fielder
Izzy Ekstam singled to right center, plating pinch runner
Shelby West. Each team scored two in the eighth, sending the game into its second extra inning. Thomas held CCG scoreless in the ninth, then pinch hitter
Amy Latner reached on an error by CCG's shortstop, allowing first baseman
Michaela Farr to score the game-winning run.
Sheala Brown started the game on the mound for TU, striking out four and allowing just one run from four hits and one walk in 7.0 innings.
Rebecca Boesen came in for relief and picked up her ninth win of the season by striking out two and giving up just one earned run, two total, from two hits.
Left fielder
Gaby Mora was the only Night Hawk with a pair of hits, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Third baseman
Corryne Diaz connected on a double and drew a walk for TU.
Game Two
Coastal Georgia again scored first, knocking in one run in the top of the first, then added a second in the third inning. Thomas scored in the bottom of the third as second baseman
Hannah Wilde singled through the right side to plate center fielder
Barbara Woll. But CCG added an insurance run in the top of the fifth and took the game, 3-1.
Pitcher
Emily Bowne (2-1) took the complete game loss for TU, striking out four and allowing three runs, two earned, from 11 hits.
Shortstop
Holly Campbell was 3-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases and Farr tagged a double for the Night Hawks.
