TU Breaks USCB’s 19-Game Streak

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University softball team snapped University of South Carolina Beaufort's 19-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon at Armory Field. 

After falling, 4-0, in the first game, Thomas took the second game, 2-1, with a walkoff fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh. 

TU is now 7-9 overall and USCB falls to 19-1. 

The Night Hawks return to action Feb. 12, traveling to Lawrenceville, Ga., to face No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett College in an afternoon doubleheader. 

Game One 
The Sand Sharks plated one in the first and three more in the second inning to take the 4-0 win. Thomas connected on just two hits and made three errors in the game. 

Starter Rebecca Boesen took the loss after 2.0 innings of work, allowing four runs, none of which were earned, from three hits and one walk. 

Shortstop Holly Campbell and center fielder Gaby Mora recorded TU's two hits, and second baseman Hannah Wilde stole a pair of bases for the Night Hawks. 

Game Two
Thomas got on the board first with a run in the fifth, then USCB tied the game in the top of the seventh. Then in the bottom of the seventh, right fielder Izzy Ekstam singled to shortstop and advanced when catcher Amy Latner reached on an infield error. Leftfielder Raelye Rouw bunted to reach on a fielder's choice, which loaded the bases. Then with one out, Wilde reached on a fielder's choice and Ekstam scored the winning run. 

Sheala Brown pitched a complete game, allowing just one run from four hits while striking out one.
