THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team defeated No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett College in two of three game this weekend at Varnedoe Stadium.
The Night Hawks (13-9) have won 12 of their last 14 games, with the only losses to No. 4 Faulkner and No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett College.
After downing the Grizzlies 4-1 on Friday, Thomas split with GGC on Saturday, falling 6-5 in the first game, then winning the final outing, 12-6.
Thomas hits the road for a three-game set with No. 10 St. Thomas University next weekend, playing a doubleheader Friday and one game Saturday in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Game One
Thomas outhit GGC 8-7, including a pair of homers, but could only plate five runs to fall, 6-5, in the first game of the day.
Pitcher
Thomas Sorrentino took the loss for Thomas, allowing four runs from four hits and four walks, and striking out three in 6.0 innings.
Right fielder
Randy Heller sent a solo shot over the wall in the second and first baseman
Jake Bryan tagged a two-run homer in the third for TU. Shortstop
Luis Martinez went 2-for-4 and was the only Night Hawk with multiple hits while second baseman
Chase Hinson drew four walks and connected on one hit.
Game Two
Georgia Gwinnett led 3-0 after five innings, then Thomas scored 12 runs over the final three innings, including a grand slam from Bryan in the eighth, to take the 12-6 win.
Jorge Meran struck out four and allowed just three runs from seven hits in 7.0 innings to take the win.
Hassan Westbrook came in to close, striking out three in 1.2 innings.
Martinez collected three RBI from two hits, scored twice and drew a walk, while
Levi O'Steen connected on a pair of hits and recorded two RBI.
