MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Thomas University baseball team lost a pair of games to No. 10 St. Thomas University Friday night in Sun Conference action.
Thomas falls to 13-11 overall and 2-6 in league play on the season while St. Thomas improves to 24-7, 6-2.
The Night Hawks and Bobcats wrap up the three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Miami Gardens.
Game One
St. Thomas scored eight runs over the first seven innings before Thomas plated two in the eighth. The Night Hawks were outhit 16-4, but drew five walks.
First baseman
Jake Bryan connected on a pair of hits, and drove in one run, while left fielder
Levi O'Steen had a double with an RBI, scored once and drew a walk.
RHP
Chance Carter (L, 3-2) tossed the first 6.0 innings, striking out four, but allowing eight runs from 13 hits and one walk.
Game Two
After falling behind, 5-0 after eight innings, Thomas scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but left the bases loaded in the final frame to fall, 5-2.
With one out in the top of the ninth, shortstop
Luis Martinez singled to left, then third baseman
Chase Hinson doubled to left. O'Steen drove in Martinez with a single to left. Bryan then doubled to right to plate Hinson. Designated hitter
Raines Plant drew a pinch hit walk to load the bases.
Brandon Paez then came in to pinch hit, but hit into a double play to end the game.
O'Steen was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Martinez recorded a pair of hits while scoring once.
Righty
Patrick Haley gave up four runs from three hits and four walked batters, but struck out five in 5.0 innings to take the loss.
