BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Thomas University shortstop
Holly Campbell hit a three-RBI triple in the fourth inning to lead the Night Hawks to an 8-4 win over College of Coastal Georgia Wednesday afternoon.
Thomas (12-16) lost the first game, 4-3, to Coastal Georgia (17-12).
TU next travels to Lakeland, Fla., to face Southeastern University March 30 at noon and 2 p.m.
Game One
Third baseman
Corryne Diaz singled up the middle in the first inning, driving in a pair of runs to give TU the early lead. Centerfielder
Barbara Woll then scored on a failed pickoff attempt in the third, but Coastal Georgia plated four runs from three hits and an error in the bottom of the seventh to earn the victory.
Campbell had a pair of hits and stole two bases for the Night Hawks while Woll connected on a double and a base hit. Diaz was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a drawn walk.
Emily Bowne started the game for TU, allowing just one hit in 2.2 innings.
Rebecca Boesen (2 H, 1.0 IP) and
Sheala Brown (2 H, 2.1 IP) each came in for relief, then
Margarita Sena closed the game, allowing four runs, three earned, from three hits in 0.1 innings.
Game Two
CCG struck first with one run in the first, but TU answered with one in the second. The Mariners plated three more in the third, but Campbell's 3-run triple to right, and two RBI singles up the middle from Woll and
Gaby Mora put TU ahead, 6-4. The Night Hawks scored two more in the sixth to record their 12th win of the season.
Brown went the distance on the mound, striking out two while allowing four runs, none of which were earned, from seven hits in 7.0 innings.
Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and second baseman
Hannah Wilde had a pair of hits and scored a run. Campbell collected three RBI on her triple and scored twice.
