TU Downs SEU in Eight Innings

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Thomas University softball team defeated Southeastern University, 2-0, in eight innings Saturday afternoon at the SEU Softball Complex. The Fire took the first game, 1-0. 

Thomas is 13-17 overall and fourth in the Sun Conference with a 7-7 record. SEU is 21-18 with a sixth-place 5-5 mark in the league. 

Thomas returns home for a pair of doubleheaders next week, facing St. Thomas University April 4 at 2 p.m., then Keiser University April 6 at noon. 

Game One
After six-and-a-half scoreless innings, Southeastern scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with the 1-0 win. The Fire hit an infield single, then a second infield single and an error from the Night Hawks plated the winning run. 

Center fielder Barbara Woll was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and first baseman Michaela Farr had a hit for TU. Left fielder Gaby Mora drew a pair of walks and stole one base. 

Pitcher Sheala Brown (4-6) struck out three and allowed one unearned run from seven hits in her complete game appearance.  

Game Two
In the second-straight game both teams were held scoreless, this time through seven innings. Then in the top of the eighth, Shelby West was placed on second to start the inning. Raelye Rouw put down a sac bunt to move West, then Holly Campbell lined out to the shortstop. With two outs, Woll walked, then Mora tripled to left field, plating both West and Woll. 

In the bottom of the eighth, pitcher Rebecca Boesen forced the Fire into an infield pop up, a strikeout and a fly out to right field. 

Boesen (6-6) went the distance for TU, striking out four and holding SEU scoreless despite giving up four hits and walking three batters.
