JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thomas University baseball split the Saturday doubleheader with Edward Waters College, winning the first, 5-3, then falling, 2-1, in game two.
Thomas (14-16) returns to Varnedoe Stadium next weekend for a three-game Sun Conference series with No. 24 Webber International. The teams will play at 6 p.m. on March 29, then Saturday's doubleheader will start at 12 p.m.
Game One
Edward Waters scored three in the fourth, then Thomas tied the game in the top of the sixth with three hits and a pair of drawn walks. TU earned the win after plating a pair in the top of the ninth.
Jacob Schmidt hit a one-out solo home run in the top of the ninth, then Maury Gonzalez reached on an error and
Jarrett Fowler was hit by a pitch in time for
Luis Martinez to hit a two-out RBI single.
Game Two
EWU scored quickly in the first after tagging a single and a double to start the inning. The Tigers added a second run in the bottom of the fifth. Thomas battled to score one in the top of the ninth off a solo home run from
Jake Bryan, but it wasn't enough as the Night Hawks fell, 2-1, in seven innings.
Bryan was 2-for-4 and Plant was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
