LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University baseball took No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett College to 11 innings before ultimately falling, 1-0, in game one and lost, 5-2, in the second game Tuesday night.
Two weeks ago, Thomas took two of three from No. 4 GGC in a weekend series.
TU next plays Edward Waters in non-conference action March 22-23 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Game One
It took Georgia Gwinnett College 11 innings to defeat Thomas in the first game, eventually scoring the winning run on a one-out base hit to left.
The Thomas defense stranded six GGC runners through nine innings, then left the bases loaded with Grizzlies in the bottom of the 10th.
Dillon Rutland got the start for TU, striking out three, allowing four hits and holding GGC scoreless through 6.0 innings.
Hassan Westbrook came in for 4.0 innings of relief, striking out two and giving up a pair of hits, then
Brent Summers closed the game, and took the loss, after allowing one run from two hits in 0.1 innings.
The Night Hawks only connected on a pair of hits, but did draw six walks and third baseman
Chase Hinson was hit by a pitch. First baseman
Jake Bryan connected on a double to center in the seventh and drew a walk and shortstop
Luis Martinez also had a hit.
Game Two
Thomas plated one run in the top of the first, but GGC scored three in the second, one in the fourth and one more in the fifth before TU could add one final run in the top of the seventh.
Left fielder
Levi O'Steen was 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base, and center fielder
Keefer Beaty connected on one hit. Hinson swiped a pair of bases for TU.
Similar to the first game, TU only recorded three hits, but drew seven walks and two Night Hawks were hit by a pitch.
Pitcher
Caleb Rogers got the start and was handed the loss after striking out two but allowing three earned runs from three hits in 4.0 innings.
