THOMASVILLE, Ga. – After starting the season 1-7, the Thomas University baseball team has won its last five games, including a pair of victories over Florida National Friday at Varnedoe Stadium.
Thomas (6-7) won the first, 12-6, then recorded its second shutout of the season, a 6-0 win, in the second game of the doubleheader with Florida National (4-10).
TU returns to the field Sunday afternoon to face No. 4 Faulkner University in a doubleheader. The first game will start at 11 a.m. in Thomasville, immediately followed by the second game.
Game One
The Night Hawks scored early and often, plating at least one run in each inning. Thomas led, 7-6 after four, then added three in the fifth and two in the sixth to earn the 12-6 win. Florida National made six errors in the game.
Starting pitcher Change Carter earned his second win of the season after tossing 5.1 innings. He struck out four, and allowed six runs from eight hits and three walked batters.
Infielder
Chase Hinson was 3-for-4 with a double, and RBI and two runs scored while catcher
Jake Webb recorded a pair of hits and collected three RBI. Leftfielder
Levi O'Steen tagged a two-run homer in the third, drew a walk and scored twice for TU and designated hitter
Jose Quintana collected four RBI from one hit and a pair of sac flies.
Game Two
After four scoreless innings, the Night Hawks scored four in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the 6-0 win.
Thomas scored six runs from six hits and the Night Hawks stole five bases, drew five walks and shortstop
Jarrett Fowler was hit by a pitch in the game.
Starting pitcher
Patrick Haley went the distance in the shutout, striking out two while allowing two hits and walking one batter. He faced 25 batters in 7.0 innings.
Outfielder Randall Heller tagged a pair of hits and scored one run while Hinson collected a pair of RBI on his one hit.
