THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team split a doubleheader with No. 4 Faulkner University Sunday afternoon at Varnedoe Stadium, winning the first game, 7-4, then falling, 8-5, in game two.
The Night Hawks (7-7) now have two wins over ranked teams, along with the 8-7 victory over No. 24 Keiser University on Feb. 16.
Thomas next faces Trinity Baptist College in a doubleheader in Jacksonville, Fla., Feb. 26.
Game One
After trailing 3-1 following the third inning, Thomas plated three in the fourth, Faulkner added one in the fifth, then TU scored three more in the sixth to earn the 7-4 win.
Starting pitcher Jorge Moran picked up the win, striking out four while allowing four runs from seven hits and four walks in 6.0 innings.
Brent Summers came in for 1.1 inning of relief, then closer
Hassan Westbrook earned his second save of the year, tossing 1.2 innings.
Firstbaseman
Jake Bryan tagged an RBI double in the fourth and a three-run homer in the sixth to push TU ahead for the win. Left fielder
Levi O'Steen also recorded a pair of hits, two RBI and scored twice.
Game Two
Each team scored a pair of runs in the first, then Faulkner added one in the third to break the stalemate. Thomas plated three in the bottom of the frame to go ahead, 5-3, but Faulkner scored five over the next two innings to split the day.
Pitcher
Thomas Sorrentino took the loss, allowing seven runs from nine hits in 4.1 innings.
Designated hitter
Jose Quintana drove in three runs from two hits, including a double. Shortstop
Luis Martinez drew a pair of walks and tagged two hits while Bryan recorded an RBI triple.
