Martinez Racks Up Five Hits vs. No. 24 Keiser

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University second baseman Luis Martinez collected five hits in a pair of Night Hawks losses to No. 24 Keiser University Friday afternoon at Varnedoe Stadium. 

The redshirt junior went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in the first game, then went 3-for-4, was hit by a pitch and stole a base in the second game. 

The Night Hawks (1-7) lost the first game 6-5 after Keiser (9-1) scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth. In the second game, Keiser had a five-run seventh inning that helped the Seahawks to an 11-8 victory. 

Thomas and Keiser face off in the final game of the series at noon Saturday at Varnedoe Stadium. 

Game One
Keiser took the 3-0 lead in the third, but Thomas plated four in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead by one. Keiser scored two in the eighth, then TU tied it up in the bottom of the frame. Keiser scored the final run in the top of the ninth to take the 6-5 win. 

Starting pitcher Thomas Sorrentino left the game with a 4-3 lead after tossing 7.0 innings, striking out two and allowing three earned runs from five hits. Logan Hollyman pitched one-third of an inning, giving up two runs from a hit and a pair of walks. Then Hassan Westbrook came in to close the game, and picked up the loss after allowing one run from two hits and two walks. 

Along with Martinez' two hits, designated hitter Jose Quintana and right fielder Brandon Paez each collected a pair of hits. 

Game Two
Thomas held a 6-5 advantage after the sixth, but Keiser plated five in the seventh to take the lead. TU scored one in the seventh, then each team recorded one in the ninth, for Keiser to win, 11-8. 

Thomas collected 11 hits to Keiser's 17, but TU recorded four errors to Keiser's one. 

Pitcher Chance Carter allowed five runs from 10 hits in 4.2 innings as the starter, then Dillon Rutland took the loss after giving up two runs from three hits in 1.1 innings. 

Martinez went 3-for-4, and first baseman Jake Bryan was 3-for-5 with three RBI. Quintana was 2-for-4 and tagged a solo home run in the seventh, while shortstop Chase Hinson also had a pair of hits, including a two-run triple in the fourth.
