Westbrook Plates Both TU Runs vs. WIU

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Thomas University lost a pair of games, 2-1 and 8-1, to Webber International Saturday afternoon at Heart of Florida Field. 

Senior second baseman Taylor Westbrook drove in both of TU's runs for the day. 

Thomas (24-20, 5-13) falls to a tie for sixth in the Sun Conference, while Webber International is in fourth with a record of 26-16 and 10-8 in the league. 

The Night Hawks return to the field April 10 against No. 17 Middle Georgia State. First pitch is at 3 p.m. at Varnedoe Stadium in Thomasville, Ga. 


Game One
Webber International scored one in the third, then Thomas tied the game in the top of the fourth. WIU scored one more in the sixth to win, 2-1. 

Pitcher Daniel Williams struck out two and allowed just one earned run from six hits in a complete 8.0 inning outing. Taylor Westbrook recorded TU's only RBI in the game off a base hit to center field. 

In the third, the Warriors hit a single to right, then the player scored on an error by the Night Hawks. 

With one out in the fourth, Chase Hinson singled through the left side, then stole second and advanced to third on a balk. Westbrook then drove in Hinson with a single to center. 

WIU connected on a pair of base hits then sent a sac fly to center to score the eventual game-winning run. 

Game Two
Thomas struck first in the second game, plating one run in the top of the first. WIU went on to score eight runs over the first five innings to win. 

Logan Place was 3-for-3 at the plate and Westbrook again recorded TU's only RBI. 

Pitcher Holden Alexander was tagged with the loss, striking out two while allowing four earned runs from four hits in 3.2 innings. 

Gavin Murphy led off the game with a single to left, then Keefer Beaty came in to pinch run. Hinson grounded out to the pitcher, advancing Beaty, then Westbrook sent a single to left, plating TU's lone run. 

WIU scored two in the first and two more in the second inning to take the early lead. Then the Warriors scored one in the fourth and three in the fifth to win, 8-1.
