THOMASVILLE, Ga. –
Chase Hinson connected on four of Thomas University's nine hits in the Night Hawks' 6-2 loss to Middle Georgia State University Tuesday afternoon at Varnedoe Stadium.
Hinson was 4-for-5 and
Gavin Murphy was 2-for-4 with a double while
Wyatt Petrey and
Logan Place each drove in one run.
Chance Carter started on the mound for TU, striking out four while allowing one run from four hits through 4.0 innings. Reliever
Brent Summers was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs and walking one in 0.1 innings.
MGSU scored first, with one run in the top of the first inning. The Knights added another in the sixth, but Thomas scored one in the sixth and another in the seventh to tie the game. MGSU then plated four in the eighth to take the 6-2 victory.
Two hits led to one run in the top of the first for the Knights. Then in the sixth, MGSU hit a solo home run to take the 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the frame, Murphy hit a one-out double, then scored on a single by Place. An inning later, Hinson hit a one-out single then stole second and advanced to third on a ground out from
Jalbert Melo. Petrey then drove in Murphy with a base hit.
MGSU tagged three hits and TU made one error to allow the Knights to score four in the top of the eighth.
Thomas (24-21) continues its five-game home stretch this weekend as the Night Hawks host the Warner (Fla. ) Royals. The teams face off Friday at 5 p.m., then play a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday.
TU's final home games are April 20-21 against Ave Maria (Fla.).
