Thomas Takes Game One vs. Warner

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University baseball defeated Warner (Fla.), 4-3, Friday afternoon at Varnedoe Stadium in the first of a three game Sun Conference weekend series. 

Warner scored one in the first and two in the second to take the early lead, but Thomas plated three in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game. The Night Hawks added one more in the bottom of the sixth to take the 4-3 win. 

TU improves to 25-21 overall and 6-13 in the league while Warner falls to 23-21 overall and 5-14 in TSC.

Pitcher Daniel Williams (7-4) went the distance for Thomas on Friday, striking out six while allowing three runs from six hits in 9.0 innings. 

Justin Young and Wyatt Petrey were each 2-for-4 with a run scored while Logan Place drove in a pair of runs on his solo base hit. 

Warner scored one run in the top of the first after a single then a two-out double. The Royals scored two more in the second after back-to-back doubles scored one, then a ground out to second base that plated another run. 

Taylor Westbrook led off the inning by drawing a walk, then consecutive singles from Young and Petrey loaded the bases. Gavin Murphy picked up an RBI by drawing a walk and keeping the bases full. With one out, Place hit a single, then Jake Webb drew a walk to score two more and tie the game. 

In the sixth, Keefer Beaty drew a two out walk then stole second. Place reached on an error by the left fielder, which also allowed Beaty to score the go ahead run. 

Thomas and Warner play a doubleheader on Saturday with the first pitch at noon at Varnedoe Stadium.
