BABSON PARK, Fla. – Thomas University baseball lost, 7-1, to Webber International (Fla.) Friday night at Heart of Florida Field. Webber, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll, snapped Thomas' 10 game winning streak, the longest in program history.
Webber International (24-16, 8-8) scored six runs in the fourth inning, then added one more in the seventh before Thomas (24-18, 5-11) plated one in the top of the ninth.
Starting pitcher Dillon Rutland struck out one while allowing six runs, four earned, from six hits in 3.2 innings. He falls to 2-4 on the season. Chris Rzewnicki came in to close the game, striking out three and allowing two hits in 1.2 innings.
Gavin Murphy was 2-for-3 while Jalbert Melo recorded an RBI double for the Night Hawks.
Webber International scored six runs from five hits and one Thomas error in the bottom of the fourth. Then in the seventh, the Warriors connected on a single then a triple drove in their seventh and final run.
In the top of the ninth, Chase Hinson singled to right field, then Melo sent an RBI double to right center, plating Thomas' only run of the game.
The Night Hawks and Warriors return to the field Saturday at noon for a doubleheader.
