AVON PARK, Fla. – Thomas University baseball held Bellevue University (Neb.) scoreless in the top of the seventh to take the 3-2 win Friday in the Warner Invitational at Charles Head Field. Â
The Night Hawks (13-14) lost, 8-0, to Lourdes (Ohio) in the first game of the day.Â
Thomas will play its final game of the tournament on Saturday. Team and time is TBA.Â
Game One
Lourdes plated one in the bottom of the first, then added a second run in the third. A five-run fourth and one in the fifth gave the Gray Wolves the 8-0 win.Â
Taylor Westbrook was 2-for-2 and drew a walk for the Night Hawks. Starting RHP
Logan Hollyman was tagged with the loss, allowing four earned runs from nine hits while striking out two in 3.2 innings.Â
Game Two
Thomas struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, then added a second run in the fourth. Bellevue plated one in the fifth, then Thomas took the 3-1 lead in the bottom of the frame. BU added one in the sixth, but it wasn't enough as the Night Hawks won, 3-2.Â
Jalbert Melo was 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and
Levi Hollingsworth was 1-for-3 with an RBI double.Â
With one out in the first,
Chase Hinson drew a walk, advanced to second on a base hit by Melo and then moved to third as
Gavin Murphy reached on a fielder's choice. Hinson scored as Westbrook singled through the left side.Â
In the fourth, Murphy drew a leadoff walk and scored off a double to right center by Hollingsworth.Â
BU tagged a double and a base hit to score one in the fifth.Â
Melo drove in Thomas' second run with a triple to left center in the bottom of the fifth.Â
In the sixth, a single, an error and a sac fly gave BU its second run of the game.Â
