HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The Thomas University Night Hawks continued to swing hot bats, downing USC Beaufort, 16-1 and 12-1, to sweep the Sand Sharks this weekend. 

Thomas has had seven straight games with double digit hits, including five outings with 15 or more. The Night Hawks have scored 12 or more runs in six of the last seven games. 

Logan Place and Jalbert Melo had a home run in each game for the Night Hawks. Pitcher Daniel Williams struck out seven in the first game and Holden Alexander struck out five in game two. 

Thomas improves to 22-17 overall and 5-10 in the Sun Conference while USC Beaufort falls to 13-20 overall and 3-13 in the league. 

TU next faces Brewton-Parker (Ga.) in a doubleheader on April 3 in Mount Vernon, Ga. 


Game One
The Night Hawks collected 21 hits and were only struck out once in game one, earning the 16-1 victory. Thomas went ahead 13-1 after the first three innings.

Pitcher Daniel Williams earned the complete game win, striking out seven while allowing just one run from five hits in 7.0 innings. 

The Jalberto Melo and Logan Place each cracked a home run for the Night Hawks and Jake Webb, Wyatt Petrey and Place each connected on a double in the game. Justin Young was 4-for-5 in the game while Taylor Westbrook and Place each tagged three hits in the game. 

In the top of the first, Hinson was hit by a pitch then Melo singled through the left side. Westbrook reached on a fielder's choice, plating Hinson. Then an RBI single by Young and a double from Petrey gave TU the 3-0 lead. 

USCB scored one run from a base hit and a passed ball in the bottom of the frame. 

In the second, Webb sent a one-out double to left field, then Hinson bunted for a base hit in time for Melo to rock a three-run homer. Westbrook then singled, advanced on a single by Young, reached third on a fielder's choice and scored on a passed ball. 

TU connected on six hits for six runs in the third. Webb reached on an error, then Hinson singled through the left side. Melo drew a walk, then Westbrook hit a two-RBI single up the middle. Young singled to left field, and Petrey punched an RBI single to left. Murphy hit a sac fly to center to score another run, then consecutive base hits from Landon Boyette and Place plated two more runs. 

Melo drew a one out walk in the top of the fourth, advanced on base hits from Westbrook and Young, then scored as Petrey grounded out to third. 

In the fifth, Boyette singled up the middle, then Place doubled through the left side to score TU's run. 

Place hit a solo home run in the seventh to complete Thomas' scoring for the game. 

TU left 12 runners on base in the game. 


Game Two
Thomas scored one run in the first, then exploded for nine in the third to take the early lead. TU added one in the fourth and one in the sixth before USCB plated one run in the bottom of the seventh. 

Melo and Place each hit home runs while Hinson had a pair of doubles while going 4-for-5 at the plate. 

Holden Alexander struck out five while allowing one run from five hits in 7.0 innings. 

Webb led off the game by drawing a walk, then a double by Hinson and a sac fly from Melo plated TU's first run. 

TU's nine runs came from 10 hits in the third. Hinson singled then Melo hit a two-run homer to start the scoring barrage. Back-to-back singles from Westbrook and Young set up an RBI double for Petrey. Then with one out, Place doubled to left to plate two more Night Hawks. Beaty then singled and stole second in time for Hinson to hit a two-RBI single up the middle. Melo singled through the left side to plate Hinson, then after a walk to Westbrook, Young singled through the left side to drive in Melo. 

Place drew a one-out walk in the top of the fourth, then with two outs, Webb singled to left field. Hinson then doubled to right, plating TU's 11th run. 

Place led off the top of the sixth with a solo home run to score Thomas' final run. 

USCB scored off a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.
