THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University downed Florida National, 12-2, to complete the three-game sweep on Saturday at Varnedoe Stadium.
Thomas took all three games from an opponent for just the third time this season, including a sweep of Montreat (N.C.) in February, Siena Heights (Mich.) in March and Florida National this weekend.
Thomas connected on 17 hits to score 12 runs and improve to 17-17 on the season.
Pitcher
Daniel Williams earned the complete game victory, striking out 10 and allowing just two runs from eight hits while walking one in 7.0 innings.
Three Night Hawks knocked pitches out of the park as
Justin Young tagged a three-run shot,
Jalbert Melo had a two-run homer and
Wyatt Petrey hit a solo home run.
Jake Webb,
Chase Hinson and
Taylor Westbrook each had three hits in the game.
Florida National scored both of its runs in the first inning, then held TU scoreless for a pair of innings. Thomas scored one in the third and one in the fourth to tie the game. The Night Hawks scored four in the fifth, a trio in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
FNU had three hits to score two runs in the first.
Hinson hit a two-out single in the third, stole second and advanced to third on an error. Melo drew a walk, then Westbrook singled to drive in TU's first run.
An inning later,
Landon Boyette hit a one-out triple, then scored as Webb connected on a base hit.
In the fifth, Melo drew a leadoff walk, then Westbrook singled.
Justin Young then sent a three-run shot over the fence. In the next at bat, Petrey sent a solo shot out of the park.
Hinson reached on a base hit, then Melo homered to open the sixth. Westbrook then had a base hit and advanced to second on a wild pitch in time for Young to drive him in.
Three straight one-out base hits from Webb, Hinson and Melo loaded the bases for the Night Hawks.
Trent Miller then reached on an error, Young was hit by a pitch and Petrey singled to score a run on each play.
TU returns to Varnedoe Stadium on Tuesday to play a doubleheader against Trinity Baptist (Fla.). First pitch is at 3 p.m. on March 27.
