Softball Sweeps Edward Waters to Open New Armory Field

THOMASVILLE, Fla. – Thomas University softball swept Edward Waters, 4-0, 4-0, in Saturday's doubleheader at the newly renovated Armory Field. 

Coach Bill Wilson earned his 400th career victory with the game-one win. Wilson is in his 17th season as a collegiate head softball coach and 10th with Thomas. After the two-game sweep of Edward Waters, Wilson's career record is 401-358-2, while his record with the Night Hawks is 214-207.

Senior Lauren West earned the victory in game one, striking out four and allowing just two hits in 7.0 innings. Redshirt freshman Rebecca Boesen (3.0 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 1 K) started the second game, then freshman Margarita Sena picked up the win, pitching 4.0 innings, striking out three and did not allow a hit.

Senior Kaitlyn Stoltz was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a drawn walk in the first game, then cracked a triple, drew a walk and scored one run in the second game. 

Thomas returns to Armory Field on Feb. 13 for a doubleheader against Trinity Baptist (Fla.) First pitch is slated for 1 p.m., with the second game immediately following. 

Game One
TU struck first, plating one run in the bottom of the opening frame, then tallied one in the third, fifth and sixth innings to take the 4-0 victory. 

Sophomore Victoria Camina and Stoltz each drew a walk to lead off the first inning, then Camina scored as senior Kelsey Connolly grounded out to the shortstop. 

In the third inning, freshman Olivia Garcia singled then scored after Stoltz punched a shot to left field.

Two frames later, Camina crossed the plate again after hitting a single, stealing second base, then scoring on a single by Stoltz. 

Thomas' final run came in the sixth as junior Gaby Mora singled, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, then took home on a sac by redshirt junior Michael Cooper

Game Two
Thomas scored four runs from four hits, three stolen bases and one EWC error in the bottom of the sixth to win the second game of the day.  

Stoltz attacked first with a leadoff triple, then scored on a single by Mora, who proceeded to steal second, advance to third on a passed ball and score on a sac fly by Connolly. With two outs, A.J. Weiss drew a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a single from Taisa Kirindongo. Kirindongo also stole second, then scored as Ekstam reached base on an error at first.
