Make it Four Straight Ws for Thomas Softball

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University downed Trinity Baptist (Fla.), 9-0, 9-1, Thursday afternoon at the newly renovated Armory Field. The Night Hawks have now recorded three shutouts this season in four games, after defeating Edward Waters (Fla.), 4-0, 4-0, last week. 

After four games, Kait Stoltz is batting .857 with six hits, including a triple, six runs scored and one RBI. She has an on base percentage of .923, including six walks, and has stolen three bases. Michael Cooper is batting .455 with five hits, one double, two runs scored and an RBI. 

Four pitchers, Lauren West, Emily Browne, Margarita Sena and Rebecca Boesen, currently own a 0.0 ERA. Sena has not allowed a hit in 4.0 IP and West has recorded five strikeouts. The TU pitching staff has not allowed an extra base hit in 24.0 innings. 


Game One
Thomas jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, then piled on the runs with three in the third and two in the fifth to take the 9-1 victory in game one. Trinity's lone run came in the third. 

Rebecca Boesen earned her second win of the season, allowing one hit and striking out one in 2.1 innings. Katie Lopes started the game, and allowed one run from two hits and five walks. 

TU tallied 11 hits in the game, led by a 3-for-3 performance from Stoltz. She also stole two bases, scored a pair of runs and drew a walk. Gaby Mora rocketed a home run and a double, recording three RBI. A.J. Weiss also cracked a double for the Night Hawks. 

In the first, Stoltz singled then Mora sent a shot over the fence to give TU the 2-0 lead. Connolly reached on an error, then scored on a double by Weiss, who then scored on a single from Cooper. 

Cooper's leadoff single in the bottom of the third prompted a three-run inning for TU. Izzy Ekstam reached on an error, plating Cooper. A sac bunt by Taisa Kirindongo was followed by a walk to Brianna Mendoza, then Victoria Camina reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Ekstam to score. A double steal attempt allowed Olivia Garcia, who was pinch running for Mendoza, to take home. 

In the fifth, Garcia reached on a leadoff walk, then scored after a wild pitch moved her around and Shelby Stephens sent a sac fly to center field. Stoltz also walked, stole second and scored after a double by Mora. 

Game Two
Thomas scored in each inning, downing Trinity, 9-0, in game two. Emily Browne earned the victory, allowing just one hit and striking out two in 4.0 innings. Kelsey Connolly blasted a home run and tallied three RBI, while Michael Cooper recorded a double and scored one run for the Night Hawks. 

With one out in the first, Stoltz drew a walk and stole second, moved to third on a fly out by Mora, then scored on a sac fly from Connolly. 

Cooper doubled to lead off the second inning, then a two-out single from Herrera plated Cooper. 

TU scored five runs from two hits and two errors in the bottom of the third. Connolly tallied a two-run homer, plating Stoltz, who had reached on a leadoff walk.  

A.J. Weiss reached on an error, moved to second and third on a pair of fielder's choices by Cooper and Kirindongo, then scored on a single by Ekstam. Both Kirindongo and Ekstam scored after Herrera reached on a fielder's choice, which was followed by a TBC error. 
 
Stoltz scored for the final time in the bottom of the fourth after drawing the leadoff walk, moving to second on an error and crossing the plate on a single by Stephens.

Thomas next hosts the TU Invitational Feb. 16 and 17. Thomas faces Truett McConnell (Ga.) and No. 19 Mobile (Ala.) on Friday and Montreat (N.C.) and No. 23 Rio Grande (Ohio) on Saturday.
