THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's soccer team defeated USC Beaufort, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex to remain unbeaten in Sun Conference play.
Thomas improves to 3-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in league action, with the Night Hawks' only losses to nationally ranked opponents.
After falling behind, 1-0, in the first 10 minutes, Thomas scored in the 17th and 70th minutes to come away with the win.
Rookie
Cara Eaton scored her second goal of the season, which was assisted by both senior
Anna Gray and junior
Kayla Folse. Then sophomore
Taylor Hults netted a penalty kick to put the Night Hawks ahead. Senior goalkeeper
Kara Houston made four saves in 90 minutes.
Thomas outshot USCB 21-6, 9-5 on goal, and Thomas took nine corner kicks to USCB's one.
Gray took the first shot, nearly two minutes into the match, which bounced off the crossbar. USCB then attacked at 7:33, but Houston saved the shot. Then at 9:19, USCB took the 1-0 lead.
The Night Hawks again pressured the Sand Sharks, as Gray and Folse sent a pass that led Eaton to a one-on-one goal against the USCB keeper.
Twenty minutes later, freshman
Selma Brorsson's attempt hit the crossbar, ending TU's flurry of shots in the first half.
Tied at 1-1, Thomas came out firing in the second period attempting five shots in the first five minutes, and was awarded four corners over the next 17 minutes.
Then at 69:46, Hults converted a penalty kick to give TU the 2-1 lead and eventual victory.
Thomas has a tough road schedule ahead, facing No. 9 Keiser Oct. 6 and No. 3 Southeastern Oct. 10 before returning to Thomasville to play Warner Oct. 13 at 2 p.m.
