WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Thomas University women's soccer team fell, 4-0, to No. 9 Keiser University Saturday afternoon at Amigo Vecellio Stadium.
"The team played very well for 70 minutes. In the other 20 minutes, Keiser showed their class," said Head Coach
Julie Orlowski. "The score was not indicative of the type of match it was. Keiser's two goals in three minutes broke our back.
Katy Hunt and
Taylor Hults played very well defensively."
The Night Hawks are now 3-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in Sun Conference action, with all four losses to teams ranked in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll at the time of competition.
Thomas goalkeeper
Kara Houston made 16 saves in 88 minutes, as TU was outshot 32-5 overall and 20-3 on goal.
Selma Brorsson attempted a pair of shots, with one on goal, while
Katy Hanscomb and
Jonna Wittwer each recorded a shot on goal.
Keiser first scored with five minutes left in the first half to take the lead going into halftime. The Seahawks scored back-to-back goals in the 59th and 63rd minutes to go ahead by three, then added another in the 81st minute to earn the 4-0 victory.
"In the first half we created five dangerous scoring chances. If any of them find the net, the second half looks a lot different," added Orlowski. "I'm very proud of the girls. We will gather ourselves and prepare for Southeastern on Wednesday."
Thomas returns to the pitch against its second-straight ranked opponent, facing No. 3 Southeastern (Fla.) Oct. 10 in Lakeland, Fla.
