MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Thomas University women's soccer team lost, 4-1, to Johnson & Wales University Saturday afternoon at Miami Shores Village.

JWU netted three goals in the first half, then added a fourth midway through the second period, before Thomas scored in the 80th minute.

"That was the worst half of soccer I have seen while coaching at TU," said Head Coach Julie Orlowski.  "I give credit to Johnson & Wales for taking advantage of our poor play and putting three in the net."

Anna Gray scored Thomas' lone goal, her fourth of the season, and Kayla Folse was credited with her second assist of the year. Goalkeeper Kara Houston made 10 saves while allowing four goals in 90 minutes.

The Wildcats held a slight edge in total shots (24-23) but outshot the Night Hawks on goal, 14-9.

JWU attempted four shots in the first seven minutes, scoring its first goal at 7:30. Eight minutes later, the Wildcats added a second goal, then at 36:30 took the 3-0 lead.

After trading shots over the first 20 minutes, Thomas went on the attack, outshooting JWU 6-1 in the next four minutes.

The Wildcats added a fourth and final goal at 75:46, but Thomas continued to run the field.

In the 80th minute, Folse's shot from the right side hit the crossbar above the head of the JWU keeper, but Gray was there for the rebound, sending the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for TU's only goal.

In the final four minutes, Houston made three saves in one-on-one situations.

Thomas' final Sun Conference match on the road is Oct. 24 at Webber International in Babson Park, Fla., then the Night Hawks return home for the final two matches of the regular season: Oct. 27 vs. Florida Memorial at 2 p.m.; and Oct. 30 vs. SCAD-Savannah at 1 p.m.
