Night Hawks, Bees battle Wednesday

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Thomas continues The Sun Conference (TSC) action at SCAD Savannah (Ga.) on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET.

ABOUT THOMAS

The Night Hawks are coming off a 2-1 loss at Saint Thomas (Fla.) on Sept. 23 in the Green and White's league opener.

Following a goal on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute for Saint Thomas, the Night Hawks tied the match less than four minutes later. Olivia Taylor scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute, beating Bobcat netminder Cristina Garwacki for her fifth goal in four games. 

However, the Bobcats scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 59th minute from 35 yards out. 

Taylor, Linnea Roivas and Katy Hanscomb each had one shot on goal.

Night Hawk netminder Kara Houston netted eight saves in 90 minutes.

ABOUT SCAD SAVANNAH

The Bees are coming off a 2-1 overtime win over Florida Memorial on Sept. 23 in league play.
 
With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, Nikki Abel scored off of a pass from Savannah Raines to give the Bees a 1-0 at the break.
 
The Lions tied the game in the 62nd minute to send the game into overtime.
 
One minute and 39 seconds into overtime, Mikaela Heyboer connected on a pass from Emily Cook to score the golden goal.
 
SCAD Savannah outshot Florida Memorial, 13-3.

Heyboer leads the team in 2017 with six goals. 

The Bees rank 42nd in the NAIA in assists (15) and goals (22).

Hope Kemp-Hanson is sixth in the nation in game-winning goals (3).

LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE BEES

Thomas won at SCAD Savannah, 2-1, in overtime on Nov. 1, 2016. 

After the Bees took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute, Hanscomb tied the game in the 31st minute with an assist from Taylor after Hanscomb dribbled past two defenders.

In the 95th minute, Taylor dribbled past two SCAD Savannah defenders and struck a near post shot into the back of the net for a golden goal.

Each team had nine shots.

Houston made three saves in 94:51 for the win.

THOMAS IN 19TH SEASON 

The 2017 campaign marks the 19th in the history of Thomas women's soccer. 

The Night Hawks reached the NAIA National Championship once in 2003, going 1-1.

Thomas has been a member of The Sun Conference since 2012 and is 31-17 in league play. The Night Hawks reached The Sun Conference Tournament championship in 2015.

STUNG

Thomas is looking for its fourth-straight win over SCAD Savannah.

Thomas ended a four-match losing streak in season openers with a 3-0 victory at Columbia (S.C.) on Aug. 19. The Night Hawks ended a five-match losing streak in neutral site games following a 1-1 tie with Truett McConnell (Ga.) on Aug. 24 at Point (Ga.). 

TOO CLOSE TO CALL

The Night Hawks have defeated the Bees in the last three matchups each time by one goal.

OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION

Thomas has outscored its opponents this season 18-10.

Taylor has registered at least one point in four of the last five matches.

The Night Hawks' shutout streak of 279:59 which ended Sept. 14 against then-No. 7 Wiliam Carey (Miss.) spanned four games.

Thomas ranks 43rd in the NAIA in shutouts (3).

Taylor is 19th nationally in assists (5). Whitley Anderson is 31st in game-winning goals (2).

TOUGH SCHEDULE

Orlowski's team faces or has faced four programs ranked in the latest NAIA top 25: No. 4 William Carey (Miss.), No. 8 Keiser (Fla.), No. 9 Mobile (Ala.) and No. 14 Southeastern (Fla.). One other - SCAD Savannah (Ga.) - is receiving votes.

The Night Hawks are 0-2 against the top 25 this season, having lost to then-No. 7 William Carey and at then-No. 12 Mobile.

The Night Hawks face three opponents - Keiser, William Carey and Mobile - that reached last season's NAIA National Championship second round.

INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE

Orlowski's group is represented by five countries on this year's roster - the United States, Wales (Katy Hunt), England (Taylor, Gray, Wiltshire, Hanscomb), Sweden (Roivas, Anna Felixson) and Ireland (Tara Walsh).
